Annie Sloan Chalk Paint
This is a Girl's Paint! (but boys can use it too)

Annie Sloan developed her now famous Chalk Paint to answer the need she had for a paint which would have many uses from acting like limewash to looking like old painted furniture and that had a good range of color that could be extended by the user. Easy to work with, this paint allows you to be creative as you don't get involved with the technicalities of preparation and it also allows you to change your mind without hassle.

Chalk Paint is a unique, simple, eco friendly, water based paint in 28 decorative and historical colors made specifically for painting cabinets & furniture, floors, 'blackboards' and for giving walls a completely matte, velvety, breathable finish. Surfaces need no priming or special preparation other than cleaning as this paint sticks to virtually everything!

This is THE paint to use for the painted French and Swedish look on furniture where the paintwork shows a patina of history. The paint is soft before curing and easy to distress and patinate taking wax to give it a beautiful mellow and protective finish. The colors have been inspired by European 18th century furniture and have been made bright and rich, bearing in mind that they will be darkened with wax. None of the colors except Graphite contain black pigment, allowing for combining colors, further mixing and layering without dulling the finish.

SAMPLE TECHNIQUES

RETAIL: $38.95/quart - COVERAGE: 139 sq ft

Here are techniques you might want to try:

DISTRESSED SWEDISH/FRENCH/URBAN LOOK: Apply one or two coats of Chalk Paint in the same or different colors and allow to dry. Then apply soft clear wax using a brush. Next, wipe off any excess wax. Then rub over gently with medium grade sandpaper to dristress it. For a more distressed look, use rustic colored wax to darken some areas. Finally, apply more clear wax and allow to dry 24 hours. If a delicate sheen is desired then buff the wax after it is completely dry.

POLISHED PLASTER LOOK: Apply two coats of Chalk Paint in the same or different colors. Then rub with fine sand paper or lightly use an electric sander until shiny smooth. Leave or wax for extra shine and protection.

WASHED WOOD LOOK: Apply a damp cloth over freshly applied paint and spread to make a transparent color.

FLOORS - Use a roller to paint the floor. You may need one or two coats depending on the color of the wood or concrete and the color of the paint. Light colors will need more coats generally. Protect with a good quality sealer.

BLACKBOARD (that's not black!) - Apply three coats of paint to wall or wood. Allow to dry overnight. Clean with a slightly damp cloth.

GARDEN FURNITURE - Paint over wood, metal, matte plastic or terracotta and leave to harden overnight before exposing to rain. No need to varnish or wax.

MATTE WALLS - Use on walls for a completely matte effect but remember this is best for anywhere that is not going to get a lot of wear and tear.

CABINETS AND FURNITURE - NEEDS NO PRIMING, NO PREPARATION as it will stick to almost everything -old waxed pine, melamine and varnished wood included. Knots on new wood need to be sealed with Knotting solution. Great coverage but does depend on what you are painting, but a rough guide is 13 square metres (139 square feet).
